The Valencia brand was first established in Melbourne, Australia in 1972 by two lifelong industry veterans. The Guitars produced under the Valencia name were a step above the quality of other student instruments at that time and enjoyed good local sales success.
With retirement pending, in 1981 the stewardship of the Valencia Guitar passed to Kevin Hague (Australasian Music Supplies) who after exhaustive research moved manufacturing to Samick Musical Instruments, South Korea who at that time were the largest Guitar Manufacturer in the world and arguably manufacturing the best quality instruments in Asia. This move took the Valencia brand to an unassailable #1 position in the Australian market and to this day Valencia Guitars remain the biggest selling Guitar in Australia.
In 1984 Kevin was given ownership of the Valencia brand and ultimately because of pricing pressures in South Korea, in 1989 he decided it was necessary to move production to Taiwan ... this was done with the assistance of C.C. who drove Kevin the entire length of Taiwan visiting all the Tsai family factories and their competitors’ factories, enabling Kevin to decide ono decide on 2 factories to manufacture Valencias in Taiwaiwan.an.
In 1996 Team International started workinging with Chinese factories to manufacture Classic Guitars to the specifications and quality acceptable to the Australian market. After successfully achieving this, in 1997 Kevin decided to move production from Taiwan to 3 factories in Southern China. Following this successfull transition, it was decided that Australasian Music Supplies would allow Team International to sell Valencia Guitars into the world market, thus taking what started as a home grown brand onto the world stage, so to speak.
